2022 DOTA 2 The International 11 Main Event Day 1: Defending champions exit and other upsets mark the beginning of the event – The International 2022 kicked off in style and what an exciting Main Event Day 1 we had. Fans saw some high-profile DOTA 2 teams getting dominated and clean swept on the stage. From the longest Main Stage game in TI history to the exit of The International 10 champions there are a lot of stories to break down.

Here is a recap of the first day of the Main Event.

2022 DOTA 2 The International 11: Main Event Day 1

upper bracket – round 1
  • EVIL GENIUSES VS THUNDER AWAKEN
    • Despite their impressive performance in the Group Stage, EG was out of depth here. Thunder Awaken seemed to have an answer to all its strategies.  Thunder clean swept EG 2-0 to secure the first victory of the day.
  • TEAM SECRET VS PSG.LGD
    • This was another stomp that many did not foresee. Team Secret continued to play with their momentum from the Group Stage. On the other hand, PSG.LGD failed to achieve a single win even when they picked their comfort champions. Secret beat PSG.LGD by 2-0.
lower bracket – round 1
  • HOKORI VS BEASTCOAST
    • The longest-ever-lasting five-man roster of beastcoast was able to beat Hokori. Even though Hokori tried to fight back in the mid-game, beastcoast executed better team fights to close out the game in 36 minutes.
  • TEAM SPIRIT VS BOOM ESPORTS
    • The International 10 champions were eliminated from the tournament by BOOM. The defending champions were not able to counter the enemy lineup and lost the game in 40 minutes.
  • FNATIC VS GAIMIN GLADIATORS
    • Fnatic was the last European team that was eliminated from The International 11. Although they held on for quite a long time, Gaimin Gladiators’ late game was too much for Fnatic to handle. GG won the match in 50 minutes.
  • ENTITY Gaming VS ROYAL NEVER GIVE UP
    • It was the last game of the day which became the longest Main Stage game in TI history. Entity Gaming patiently held on against RNG’s aggression and managed to make a comeback. They pulled off an unlikely victory in 107 minutes and stayed alive in the tournament.

The competition will become more intense on Main Event Day 2. Stay tuned to get more of such latest updates from the ongoing 2022 DOTA 2 The International 11 tournament.
